Part 1: Keeping Safe Online
Every year, month, day, and interaction you have with your digital technology there are things to look for that tell you about the health of your systems. The problem is it’s not clear what all these things are! Some people have spent a lot of time with technology and have slowly absorbed the advice of what to look out for. What seems strange, and what is normal becomes second nature – or seemingly a mystic art. In our own bodies we know what to look out for to keep ourselves healthy – even if we don’t always follow through on those things 100% of the time. Here in Chapter 1: An Introduction to the Basics we’re going to learn about the most important aspects of managing our technology.

Never reuse or share passwords
Sharing passwords is a risky business. You will likely end up sharing more than you think. Further down the line someone may also be able to guess your passwords for other platforms if the passwords are similar or you are using a compound password strategy to remember all your passwords.
It’s time to get and use a password manager.
If you want to send your password to others, without them being able to see that password, then a tool like LastPass has a password sharing feature that can enable that.
Avoid oversharing
Types of oversharing:
- Sharing pictures of minors without consent. (Grandkids, Friends kids, kids in the background of photos you can share)
- Posting online in groups that seem friendly and semi-private, but are actually public.
